FIVE NATIONAL STUDIES
Story by Morgan Day

1 When asked if they were receiving a well-rounded education despite their extracurricular activities, nearly 92 percent of college athletes in 2006 said yes, they were.

2 This March, the journal of Science gave a group of college students $5 to $20 and told half to spend it on themselves while the other half spent the money on others. The result? Researchers found it’s not how much money we have, but what we spend it on that makes us happy — those who spent their cash on others yielded the greatest happiness.

Wood, a professor of quantitative psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, says colleges should require students to enroll in Friday morning classes to remedy the “problem.” Click here for study.

5 Seventy percent of college women recently reported an experience in which a guy mistook her friendliness for a sexual come-on, according to a study by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. “Young men just find it difficult to tell the difference between women who are being friendly and women who are interested in something more,” says Coreen Farris, lead researcher from Indiana University's Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences.
