Try new Valentine's Day ideas

It seems like the semester just started, but already it’s February. And, in case you somehow haven’t noticed the red and pink reminders in every store, Valentine’s Day is coming. Flowers, chocolates and cards have all been done. Why don’t you try something new?

Paris is supposed to be romantic, right?

Tucked inconspicuously in a small plaza on Bailey Road in Cuyahoga Falls, The French Coffee Shop is like a hidden gem. Soup, sandwiches, quiches and crepes make this tiny diner a pleasant place for a meal. The red chairs and booths, Eiffel Tower-themed decor and lovely murals make it even better.

One highlight off the shop’s menu: Chocolaty Strawberry Crepe. This dessert is made with a chocolate hazelnut spread (probably Nutella, which in itself is wondrous) and was served to our table, still warm. Kent State junior Katy Zinn said the treat would be perfect to share with a significant other on Valentine’s Day. “So good,” she said, “you might just lick the powder sugar-covered plate!”

What about Star Wars?

Television and movies make it seem like guys should always make some big, romantic gesture on Valentine’s Day. If you’re a lucky lady who usually gets her way, dragging your man along to every chick flick in theaters, maybe it’d be nice to let him pick for a change.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace” will be rereleased to theaters in 3D on Feb. 10. The Star Wars series is a classic, but if don’t think it sounds like your cup of tea, remember three things:

1. Your significant other picked it out and it will make him or her happy.

2. You thought “Beauty and the Beast” looked cool in 3D and this has lasers.

3. You’ll get to see Ewan McGregor in 3D. Now, c’mon!

Whether you split a dessert, see a movie or stay home - have a happy Valentine’s Day.
