Memefier app? Me gusta

Author // Rebecca Reis

Picked a meme and aimed. Now he's the MOST EXCITED HE'S EVER BEEN.

My friend Zach is looking down. I'll frame him up in Memefier.

I'm already prepping for the massive amount of pictures I'm going to take over the summer, but I don't want to see anyone's faces. I'll be using my new favorite iPhone app, Memefier.

For those who don't understand Internet memes, a meme is an idea that passes on from person to person, generation to generation. Symbols, like the crucifix, are a meme. No one decided one day that the crucifix would be a Christian symbol. It's just been passed on as an idea to the point where we see a crucifix and immediately think of Christianity.

Internet memes are an entirely different animal. People know that when they see this face it means "me gusta" (or at least anyone who's spent time on Tumblr or Reddit.

And now you can take photos on your phone that replace your buddy's face with an infinitely more photogenic rage face. The app lets you either pick the meme you want or it will pick a random one for you.

One great thing about the program is that it automatically finds your friend's face and sizes it to fit. The con is that people have to sit still. I've used it mostly to take pictures of people in the newsroom, and it's hard to get people to sit still long enough to be memefied. I also wish it had the option to upload old pictures and put faces on those.

Overall, Memefier is a wonderful app that has given me a wonderful distraction from exams.
