Of Monsters and Men, an indie pop band from Iceland, certainly has had its share of success the past year, which makes it the Burr’s Artist of the Week. The six-member band had its big break after winning a battle of the bands competition in Iceland during 2010. It has only been uphill for the band since the competition.
By 2011, the band released an EP titled “Into the Woods,” which had its time in the spotlight, but it wasn’t until the full-length album “My Head Is an Animal” that Of Monsters and Men received widespread notice. The album, which was released in April 2012 in the U.S., quickly rose to number six on the US Billboard 200 album chart.
This past week, the band’s song “Little Talks” from “My Head Is an Animal” jumped from number 50 to 49 on the charts. The album remains at number 18 on the Billboard 200 charts.
Of Monsters and Men is on worldwide tour this year. The 2012 tour has been selling so well that the band had to add a second show at the Electric Ballroom in London. If Of Monsters and Men’s sold out shows aren’t enough of a reason to make them the Burr’s Artist of the Week, the band was nominated for a 2012 MTV Video Music Award (VMA) for “Best Art Direction.”
